Sam Harris had a fascinating (if uncomfortable for all parties) conversation about this [on his podcast a few years ago](https://samharris.org/podcasts/living-with-robots/) with Kate Darling, an expert in robot ethics and a researcher at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology Media Lab.

It was mentioned that if someone is even feeling sexual urges towards children, even if they have never acted on them, and realize that there is something deeply wrong with them and wish to talk with a therapist in order to heal themselves, therapists must report these people to the authorities. This creates a group of people who know that they are somehow broken but have no way to seek help.

It is inevitable (Rule 34 anyone?) that sex dolls/robots will be made to look like anything and everything. Animals, celebrities, fantasy creatures, aliens, and anything else that can be fetishized and molded out of latex. Where is the line in the sand that must be drawn? A doll that looks like a real child as opposed to a cartoon child? A doll that looks like a 17-year-old as opposed to an 18-year-old? A doll that clearly looks like an adult but is sized like a child? A doll that looks like an adult celebrity who banks on the fact that she looks younger than she actually is?

And speaking of which, what about other media? Should legally adult actors be allowed to portray underaged persons in sexual situations? What about actual child actors in movies that place their characters in sexual situations? What about animation/cartoons/CGI where no images of an actual human being, child or otherwise, are being depicted?

Child porn isn’t illegal because its users are sick individuals, it’s illegal because children are harmed and exploited in its production. It may be extremely horrific to consider, but criminalizing an outlet that does not harm children in its production for individuals who may or may not acknowledge they are sick, cannot seek help, and may otherwise inflict harm upon an innocent child is a bad idea, just as tracking the users is a bad idea. Ultimately a law that criminalizes behavior must show a victim of that behavior, and victimless “crimes” only create new classes of criminals.

It sounds fucked up this even exists but it doesn’t change the reality that there are pedos out there. You have those that act on their impulses and hurt children and then you have closeted pedos that don’t. It’s a tough moral subject to navigate but if a closeted pedo gets off to these toys it’s better than them going out and abusing children. There is no treatment for this mental disorder and in my opinion we are failing as a society to stop the abuse of children and to treat these people that have this sickness. I don’t see this actually doing any good in reality apart from banning something that just sounds disturbing

The problem here is that we really don’t understand if they work to divert impulses or to escalate them. If a closeted pedophile is using one of these dolls to avoid hurting children, then good for them. Though, the doll might act as a catalyst, bringing them closer to doing something horrific. This would be a very difficult subject to research, due to ethical dilemmas, and the lack of admitted pedophiles to study. We’ll have to see how this turns out.

Well… hear me out: there will always be perverts and sickos. If I have two options, a) they assault children; or b) they get one of them dolls, well… let them have their dolls

If we can’t all agree that sexualizing children is an objectively bad thing, society is finished. Or at the very least throw the “love is love” crowd in with the white supremacists and communists in the thunderdome?

Kinda wild that it’s 2021 and these weren’t immediately banned when the thought of them came up probably years and years ago…. Why is this even a question at this point in time?

  7. BisterMee says:

I remember the left screeching that white supremacists were emboldened by Trump while seeing 0 white supremacists.

Dems are emboldening pedophiles, people who want to indoctrinate kids, authoritarian dictators, actual racists, and so much more

  8. Weekendgunnitbant says:

I completely understand not wanting to encourage pedophilia. But if a pedo can lock himself away with a doll, instead of trolling parks for a victim, is it that bad? I don’t, this is a tough one. Also don’t want a doll to be a stepping stone for someone who wouldn’t otherwise become one.

I wish I could go back to 30 seconds ago when I didn’t know that child sex dolls were not only a thing but a LEGAL thing….

Biden is 100% in support of this bill.

At his age it’s confusing enough to distinguish between children and very short adults. Eliminating child sized dolls simplifies things for him.
